Case Studies: Boy Racer Films.
Boy Racer Films, headed up by acclaimed writer/ director Gil Brailey have awarded Siren Enterprises a marketing, product placement and PR brief for their launch of 3 shorts onto the UK market this year.
Gil of Peak Practice and Heartbeat TV writing fame had her first feature produced in 2003. The Virgin of Liverpool starred OSCAR nominee Imelda Staunton, Ricky Tomlinson and Johnny Vegas. After prolific success as a writer, Gil has turned her talents to film making and has fearlessly gone into production with 3 shorts this year.
The first, The Car, a thriller set in, not suprisingly, a car at night, explores the relationship bewteen two London street boys and their shared girl and stars up and coming talent Darren Darnborough. Darren is known for his gritty characters in Eastenders, The Bill and Headstate by Irvine Welsh. Jimmy Akingbola who appeared in Who Killed PC Blakelock?, for the BBC and the Kathy Burke play Blue/Orange adds further prowess.
Gil is holding off on the premiere until the ambitious release of the sequel, The Car 2 and completion of a mystical drama set in Hastings, The Secret King of Scotland, which wraps this August. When short films are spiralling in popularity in the capital, the release of a sequel is a 'first' on the short film circuit. The objective of the trilogy is to showcase Gil's directorial talent and raise further funds for two features she has in development.
Penny Downes of Siren Enterprises stated 'Gil is already prominent in the industry and has an amazing amount of courage, creative talent and energy. We've got all the ingredients we need to mix up a really gutsy campaign. Just taking a look at The Car makes my hair stand on end! And at the end of the day, it's all about the movie in the short film market. We are now able to pull together some really dramatic mobile and viral marketing. Short films of this calibre are ideal for these media.'
Siren are seeking product placement opportunities for the remaining two scripts and are drafting up a complex media and PR plan that will integrate the 3 shorts. Boy Racer Films and Siren Enterprises are rousing up plans for a glittering multi media premiere in central London this November which will also be a 'never experienced before extravagana' for film industry folk to network, learn and share ideas.
